CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (she represents the entire kingdom, though by herself she is just England. Also will answer to Britain or the name of the country in other languages. She is presumably the only sister that attends world conferences, so the other countries have come to know her as the UK, while she is called England by her sisters) / Guinevere Kirkland (friends call her Gwen)
Age: 1084, but she could easily pass for a 16 year old girl...
Subject taught: Advanced Summoning
Canon: Hetalia: Axis Powers (Nyotalia)
Canon point: current (2012)
Personality:
To most people, England is seen as cold and sarcastic, maybe even a bit troublesome. She is, in fact, unyielding in her beliefs (especially if she hates you, at which point she will always try to prove you wrong). England can be seen as hardworking and rigid; she will always finish a job, no matter how pointless, to you, it may seem. She will lecture anyone who questions her methods. She is rather old-fashioned and likes it that way.
No one is perfect, however. England the supposed elegant lady can be rather nasty when drunk and will hold grudges forever. She absolutely hates to lose. When she was younger, she was a vicious pirate who tormented weaker countries like Spain. She is also a closet pervert (and a masochist). While most of her views on the world are pessimistic, England also tends to be romantic. She likes to keep her outward appearance very tidy and refined. But inside, she's a total punk (she supposedly has a tattoo of an electric guitar somewhere on her body). She does not fully comprehend the significance of death, and she may even look down on humans because she figures they are weak, inferior beings that need constant supervision and protection.
England seems as though she doesn't mind being alone and not having many friends. There is a lot of work to be done, after all, and having few people around means she won't be bothered. Actually, she really is lonely (see: tsundere) and pathetic. When she does make friends (and this may take a while, since she has a difficult time not only with trusting people, but also expressing her true feelings), England is very loyal. She will throw herself into learning about them, and sometimes will give them gifts. If she feels she has been betrayed, she may never forgive you. England is very good at remembering everything someone has done to her, both rights and wrongs, so she will bring up the past in order to prove points.
Sex is also a big part of England's life but, contrary to popular belief, she is not promiscuous. She is not running around and sleeping with everything that walks (like some country that does not even deserved to be mentioned), and she does not want to, which may make her come off as frigid to certain people. England would never consider pursuing a relationship with a human. This is considered taboo among countries. Since she is romantic, she prefers to give her love to one person at a time, and she is willing to wait for her romantic interest to love her in return.
At one point, The United Kingdom was a strong world power. As mentioned before, she was treasure-hungry pirate, as well as an Empire that captured and colonized other countries. She knows a lot about fighting and tactics, and has spent ample time on the battlefield. She is used to not only giving commands, but also taking them. She wants to be strong, but is stronger when she has something she wants to protect, or someone to guide her. Though she is very distant in her feelings, when she is fighting or working, she prefers to take things head-on. No nonsense. She doesn't need anything fancy or extra. Nowadays, though, she is a bit more demure and does not like confrontations.
While England has won many wars on her own, it should be noted that she is weak-willed and sometimes even naive when fighting, even if she has hardened herself and tactically made plans. This can be seen in both the American Revolutionary War (England threw down her musket and refused to fight America when she came face to face with her, breaking down on the battlefield), as well as the beginning of World War II (England refused to enter the war for a long time, refused to help France because it did not view Germany as a threat. Though this is not Hetalia canon). The point is that England cannot always make rational decisions on her own when in the heat of battle. She lets her emotions get the better of her and often needs prodding and supervision to move in the right direction, though she may not always take suggestions, even if they could possibly be in her favor. This can be seen time and time again in the way England constantly supports America; America has the brawn, but England has the brains.
England is a country, which means she can survive being shot or stabbed, or various other things that would kill humans. She has endured horrible diseases, famine, wars, and even drowning. Living for so long has trained her for fighting, as well as daily life. She knows how to defend herself. She had a rough childhood, but learned the art of politics and war quickly; she is proficient with a sword and a good speaker (She cannot get pregnant, being that she is a country). England did not grow up sheltered or disguising herself as male. She is a country, and proved herself to be strong as a leader, a nurturer, and a fighter since she came into being. If any man or boss tried to question her authority, she would make them respect her, generation after generation, until her citizens gave her praise and loved her. She was a pirate captain, not a pirate wench. She was a soldier, and never a woman who was forced off the battlefield. She sailed ships and flew airplanes. She did anything a man could do and more because she was strong and immortal, but also because she was never afraid to hide who she truly was.
England has a wide array of talents, from singing and needle-point, to knowing how to care for children, and tactics on the battlefield. She is quite crafty and good at drama and comedy. She can speak both English (her natural language) and French fluently, and knows formal European-Spanish and a little German and Japanese. England knows how to be sexy, but she is also good at keeping herself reserved when she needs to. She is very good at preparing for anything beforehand, whether it be war or a meeting, or even something as simple as going grocery shopping. She is also an excellent spy and has, on several occasions, disguised herself in order to get closer to her enemies.
Relying only on herself has made her a bit of a loner. England is cynical and stubborn to the point where she will refuse to back down to anyone. This standoffish attitude prevents her from getting close to most people. She has mastered the art of magic, both black and white. She has been known to to summonRussiacreatures from other worlds, as well as create potions and curses to use on her enemies (they do not always work). England is also very superstitious, believing in fairies, unicorns, ghosts, and strange legends (but not aliens). She can communicate with mythical creatures, not only from her homeland, but other lands as well. She can see ghosts. She believes strongly in the art of magic and respects mystical beings. She absolutely loves to cook but is terrible at it, she drinks far too much, and she is always losing things. Although she was once a pirate and has a fantastic navy, she cannot swim. At all. She doesn't work out much, so she is very thin and smaller than a lot of the other European countries (she is also self-conscious about her smaller breasts). She does not need to wear glasses, but wears them because they make her look more distinguished and intellectual. In truth, she has perfect eyesight, and would most likely not wear them in war. Her hair is usually down, since the pigtails give her a childish look, and she does not like that. The pigtails come in handy if she is working, or when she is out having fun and not concerned with looking older.
While England seems to take changes in stride, she yearns for the bygone days, particularly the nineteenth century when she and Prussia were world powers together (they were practically married, considering their tangled royal family trees. These were her favorite years). She had the world at her fingertips and was making great strides in technology. She misses those days and wants to be that strong again, to go back to a time where she didn't need anyone but had everything she wanted. Sometimes she even longs to have her adorable little America back in her arms.
England is afraid of letting people down. She needs to be reassured that she is useful, that people care about her (don't ever assume she knows or should know), though she has a difficult time expressing her own feelings. She often boasts about how powerful she is, yet, in reality, she has little confidence in herself in regards to other people (though not in her other abilities. she can brag as well as any of the other countries).
Her relationship with America (and certain other countries) also may be considered a weakness. She would never admit to this.
All in all, England is full of contradictions...
